Every morning at 5 AM, Rob drives to the wholesale flower markets. He handpicks roses, tulips, lilies and whatever's freshest that day. By 7 AM, those flowers are back at the shop, hydrated and ready. His lead designer, here for 25 years, transforms them into arrangements that regularly draw gasps from customers.

About River Edge

River Edge occupies 1.88 square miles between the Hackensack River and New Milford. Kinderkamack Road runs north-south through the entire borough, connecting River Edge Station in the north to New Bridge Landing in the south. Route 4 marks the southern boundary.

About AU Florist

Rob never planned to become a florist. In the early 1980s, working in the spirits industry, a friend's flower shop needed help. Rob started with the basics of driving, cleaning, and organizing. Then the designer called out sick. Orders piling up. Boss panicking.

"I could do that," Rob offered. The boss handed him a knife hopefully. The dozen roses Rob arranged exceeded everyone's expectations. Two years of training followed. When Rob opened his own shop, his old boss cried for weeks.

Walk through our doors at 790 Kinderkamack Road and you enter something unexpected. Over 100 paintings and photographs transform the walls that include R.C. Gorman pieces, a 1944 Polish painting from Rob's grandmother, vintage 1920s magazines featuring Rita Hayworth and Judy Garland, works by Xavier Gonzalez (whose pieces hang in the Museum of Modern Art), even something Rob made in fifth grade.

Customers sit in chairs scattered around, taking it in while we create their arrangements.

5 AM alarm. Every morning. Rob drives to wholesale markets, handpicks flowers, and returns to the shop by 7AM. The designer who's been here 25 years knows Rob's standards. When customers see arrangements in the cooler, they stop and stare. That's not by accident.

Rob's philosophy? "I make arrangements like I'm making them for my family." After almost 40 years of treating River Edge that way, customers have become exactly that, they're family.
